This is the second time this has happened, and I still don't know exactly what is happening.

My Coral life super skimmer during the middle of the night just went crazy and started dumping water into the collection cup. IT dumps so much water in the cup that it overflows the 2.5 gallon jug I have to catch the dirty water.

Both times this has happened it had been weeks since adjusting the skimmer or making any changes to the tank. Its almost like the output on the skimmer got blocked temporarily forcing the water up into the cup. I woke up and noticed it today lost about 5 gallons of water, the tank and skimmer where back to running normally when I woke up. I assume that either due to the lower water level it returned to normal operation or what ever was blocking it fell out.

I got scared at first and thought my eel swam in there but she was fine still sleeping in her cave.

This is typical with the CSS. You should start saving and invest in a better skimmer. When I first got into the hobby I was using one and it flooded my house a couple times.

Keep the air intake clean.

I have an eshopps psk-75H HOB skimmer and it will do the same thing. Out of the blue it overflows the 2 liter container I use for collection. This usually happens at night and about once every 2 or 3 months. I always suspect some type of chemical warfare going on in the tank did it. I have found that with the eshopps skimmer theres a very fine line between where the water level needs to be in the skimmer to get any type of skimmate and keeping this from happening.

Yep this will just happen randomly with the Coralife skimmers, junk skimmers.
