Dunno, but I get almost all my plumbing from Ace and find it of perfectly good quality.

I would say the only difference is SCH 40 or 80. SCH 80 does quite a bit more in price. SCH 40 is perfectly fine for most applications while some need the SCH 80 depending on your GPH rate and looks.

Spears makes good valves, but for our app. SCH 40 is just fine you should never need SCH80 unless it will be under stress(weight), SCH 80 is deff. overkill, just don't buy cheap glue and primer.

The only other difference is anecdotal, and would depend on whom you ask. Sch 80 is generally more rugged than Sch 40. The only improvement for either, would be to add Viton seals, rather than EPDM, which does have better longevity in salt water. Generally, you can only get the Viton seals with a Sch 80 valve. They may be sized differently than the Sch 40 seals.

lowes and homedepot carry very good quality valve and i used them over and over in last several years with no problems. similar cost.

I'm pretty sure sch40 and 80 arnt interchangeable. The difference is the wall thickness. I forget what the name "schedule 40 or 80" actually meen but it refers to the wall thickness. Sch 40 outside diameter is smaller than sch80 so if you want a Sch 89 valve you will need to plumb the rest of the run in Sch 80.

There is no need for the beefyer pipe of Sch 80 in our plumbing. I don't know about the type of seals in the fittings so I won't give any advice in that arena.

I couldn't find a PVC gate valve there!! I had to go with a ball valve. I didn't think of the true value by my work though. I'll try there. The ball valve is very hard to dial in.

You are right about the wall thickness being the difference which makes the sch 80 more expensive but they are interchangeable with fittings. The OD is the same on both but the ID is smaller on the sch 80 which will increase the velocity through that section. Since the wall thickness is heavier on 80 it is better for high head applications with a psi rating of 400 where as the 40 has a psi rating of 260 or 280 (I don't remember off hand at the moment).

But as far as the gate valves are concerned, both are fine for saltwater applications unless you are worried about pressure which shouldn't be a concern.
