Do you want a point and shoot or a dslr? Most point and shoots have a macro setting. With a dslr the most important thing is learning about exposure and how the camera works. You might be able to get a used or entry level dslr. Then you could get a 50mm lens to start with for around $100. I would do that before going with a kit. You can also look into cheap extension tubes to start instead of an actual macro lens.

Look at B&H or Adorama. I believe they both have used equipment. They are both very reputable.

If you go the DSLR route, stick with Nikon or Canon. I love my Nikon D5100. It blows away my Sony A390. For new with DSLR's you're pretty much limited to the D3000, XS, or T3.

Me again...haha...

I would go to a camera store and hold the Nikon and Canon dslrs. Play around with them and see which feels good to you. One thing I would never do is buy a Canon with a kit lens. I have heard the Nikon kit lenses are better quality but Canon is what I know. A Canon "thrifty" or "nifty" fifty (50mm f1.8) is $100 as I mentioned before. This lens will be a great beginner lens for taking photos of your baby.

Also, if you haven't read Understanding Exposure, get it. It is an awesome book!

If possible, when you come back, could you try to use capital letters and punctuation marks please? It would make it easier to read your posts.
