I'm seriously considering switching to LED's on my 40 breeder, which is currently lit by 2x's 150w mh's (phoenix 14k's). I saw a review on youtube that showed a 40 breeder lit by 2x's sol nano's and the coverage seemed to be pretty good. My question is, will the two sol nano's be enough to light my SPS dominant 40 breeder? Or should I hold off and wait for a couple of used sol blues to come up in the classifeds? My budget is ~$750.

Or would I be better off just sticking to the mh's?

you should be ok with 2 nanos depending how high you mount them. I believe I read somewhere that AI has just one nano over a 40 or 50 gallon at their facility.

I would change make sure to get 70 degree optics and it should be ok. They don't spread very well.

How high do they need to be mounted to cover the entire tank?

AI recommends one for every foot. So a 4' tank needs 3. If you look at Sanjay's testing of the unit, you will see it would have to be hung pretty high to cover well. The change in optics to all 70 degree would help. If it were my tank, I would keep what you have.
