Restarting my 55 (undrilled) tank after about a year . Threw out ALL the old sand, old heaters, want to check seams, soaking pumps in vinegar. How do I clean the tank itself? I have a Tek light but one of the cords is damaged, so would it be better to see if I can get it fixed or get a new light fixture? I just want simple mushrooms and a couple of clowns. Have a HOB skimmer. Need imput please.

Razor blade and vinegar is the best way to clean a glass tank. What kind of lamps do you have in your Tek fixture (replacing the cord shouldn't be too hard).

You can use a mild bleach solution (1:9) or just use straight vinagar to clean.
How is the cord damaged? Are the wires themselves frayed or broken?
With the cost of lighting I would at least attempt to salvage them, maybe dismantle them completely and use them as a retrofit setup.

Replace the cord and bulbs and get your tank set up. You can use dry manmade rock and aragonite sand 40lbs and seed with a piece of liverock and some livesand from a fellow reefer. Add a dead piece of shrimp and let it cycle....

If only the wire shielding on the cord is damaged, you can simply wrap it up with electrical tape. If the copper is damaged, it'll need more work.
