20g long Sump..is an 8 inch Fuge worth it?

So i'm building a 20g long sump. my reef Octopus skimmer came in and because of the size of the pump i can't fit it in like i was hoping to so i only have room for an 8x12 inch refugium section.

would a 8x12 inch fuge that's 10 inches deep even be effective?

I'd like to grow pods and help rid of nitrates.

What size tank is the display? and how heavily is it stocked?

What's the alternative? If it's just going to be open anyway, any space is better than no space for a fuge. It's probably not big enough to get fancy with. I wouldn't put in a deep sand bed and a pistol and goby pair, but some rubble and chaeto will be quite beneficial. Pods don't need a lot of room, and chaeto gets trimmed to fit, and that's your stated goal. Go for it.

I run a 6" x 16" refugium with live rock and cheato in my 50 gallon mixed reef cube tank and the refugium makes a big difference. I would run my 50 gallon system without a skimmer before i would run it without the refugium.

Under my 40B I use a 29G as a sump. Same footprint as 20L but taller. I also use a Reef Octopus skimmer in sump. I think my fuge section is quite small as well (probably 10 inches of the length, but I don't remember) but since I can use almost all of the vertical space, the water volume is like 10 gallons, and I have LOTS of pods down there.

I was thinking the same thing...small is better than none if i have nothing else to add.

i'm gonna go for it. and just avoid the deep sand bed

If anything it gives you a nice little space to grow chaeto.

I have the same sump as you and my baffle for the fuge is either 9 or 10'' tall. With all said and done that little space holds about 5 gal of water plenty of room for cheato and some LR rubble. It won't hurt having a fuge no matter what size.
