My Alk is around 6.7 and and my ph is reaching roughly 8.45. Neither is all that bad to my understanding but if i add alk that would raise my ph. How can I raise alk without raising ph too high?

I would raise the alkalinity to at least 7-8 dKH using baking soda. That'll have at most a very small effect on pH. Is limewater being dosed into the tank? Does the tank have a skimmer? That pH is very good, actually.

no limewater dosing. I dose alk with a dosing pump. i have a marineland 100 skimmer. ammonia is 0. calcium was 386 yesterday.

Okay, I wouldn't worry, then. pH up to about 8.6 should be fine, and our testing equipment tends to be more problematic than the pH itself. :)

What exactly do u mean testing more probematic than testing iteself?

+1 on using baking soda + RO/DI. According to Randy's recipe, Recipe 2 will have a slight lowering effect on pH.

Recipe 1 (Baked Baking Soda) will raise pH, which I can confirm :)

I think that pH measurement kits and devices cause more actual problems than low pH itself. :) Very few tanks seem to run low enough to cause any actual harm.
