Okay I know some will flame me but please at least advise me.

My 55G FOWLR only has an snow flake EEL as such it is essentially 99% covered and has no noticeable evaporation. As such I don't have to top off I simply do a 5 gallon water change once every week some times once every other week.

Here comes the flame part, I don't check my salinity every week I thought since I have basically no evaporation the salinity was about the same. Well today I checked it and it was half way betwwen 1.026 and 1.028, So I checked my water can where I keep my salt water; it was 1.028 even. When I made this 32Gallon trash can full of salt water it was 1.025 Now I know that it evaporates a lot but I was dumb and didn't stop to think about this.

So what I have done so far was do a 5 gallon water change like normal, but this time I used 2.5 gallons of fresh water and 2.5 gallons of the 1.028 salt water. I was hoping this would drop the salinity in the tank by maybe 0.001 or 0.002. I then added 5 gallons of fresh water to my salt water can, I will check its salinity level in the morning and adjust accordingly until its back to 1.025.

My question is should I be watching for anything? did I jack up my poor eel? should I keep doing the 50/50 fresh water and salt water mix until I can get the tank back to 1.025? or should I just keep doing water changes with 100% salt water thats 1.025.

I already feel horrible and stupid so please keep the :deadhorse: to a min.

Thank you.

Seems to me you just slowly acclimated him to a higher salinity. 1.028 is not really a big issue at all so do not worry about it. You can just keeping your weekly 5g water changes with the 1.025 water you have and you will be good.

Natural seawater is somewhere around 1.026 as a reference.

Thank you, that puts me at ease. I was so worried my wife would be so sad if I killed her fish, guess I can't treat this the same as my fresh water tanks. Lesson learned I will be testing weekly.
