So i set up a brand new qt tank that i got from PC for my 4 Bartlett Anthias i got. I filled it with display tank water and have the filter running with just the black sponge that comes with it to catch flakes, move water, and put air into tank. Not running carbon or anything because im using Para guard. I started on Friday and noticed today that the water was cloudy. I had done a 30% water change (again using my tank water) yesterday. I called Joe at PC, he said to do another change because it might be cycling. So i did a 50% change again with my tank water today. Any suggestions or something i might be missing.

I have been feeding a few flakes in the morning and frozen mysis at night. Just enough so that they eat it all in about 30-40 sec.

Probably just a bacterial bloom, which is nothing to really worry about. Just keep up the small water changes. If it really bothers you, it can be cleared up with a small UV sterilizer if it is in fact a bacterial bloom.

+1 on bacteria. Just watch levels (Ammonia and Nitrite) and do a w/c when things get out of hand. Probably need to do one or two per week unless you've got a good supply of bacteria seeded from somewhere - possibly every other day if either reading is high on the scale.

Run some more mechanical filtration. If its not biological that will clean your water right up. If it doesn't clear than you know you've got something more serious going on with your water.

After the 50% water change it seems to be ok. Ill keep an eye on it.
