I've not quite made up my mind on the closed loop orientation.

I do know that I would like to drill only one side of the tank, all the others are against the wall anyhow.

The tank is only 18" wide, so i'm planning on 3 x 1" bulkheads for the overflow. I have been debating on an overflow at each end, but I may be moving soon and have dreams of this being viewable from both ends, or a peninsula.

I have available 2 x iwaki 55's and 1 reeflo dart. I'm thinking of either 2 x 1.5" intakes to the iwakis, with outputs opposite corner on the far side, so it's effectively pulling across the tank, then it would switch to the opposite pull, perhaps 2 hours on for each?

The dart would be run with a 2" intake and 2 outlets on the far side.

alternatively I could run outputs all along the top.

As flow needs grow, I will likely add vortechs.

Thoughts?

I truly hope you can manage to put all the water in one end and extract if from the other end. That would be so cool. And so effective.

I was always saddened by that other 12ft build where the guy just did the boring and conventional flow in a spectacular tank before ripping it all out for a lame TV or something.

Use a Ocean Motion (drum version 3 I think) on the closed loop to produce great waves.

I have a 150 gal. And drilled 4 holes for 1" bulkheads 1 3/4" in the one end. the other end of the tank I pump 1200 gph with 1 1/4" supply over the top with 2 45degree elbows to a tee bar. Which I put 5 1/8" slots. I push 20 gpm across the tank with good flow . Going to up my flow by another pump mag 7 or 9 due to the fact I put in a algae scrubber off my return to sump. I did a coast to coast skimmer. But made 1 change I put my collection box outside the tank. So I have a overflow wall like yours but exit out the tank thru the 4 holes into the box and down to the refugeum.

I have no way of doing video , just build pics and pics of the flow from above the water and below looking up. My blackberry takes video but no one else can view it. Phone is junk BB Storm. If you would like pics email me.
