I am setting up a 40 breeder reef tank and I have decided to get the MP10 to provide the flow. There is about a $50 dollar difference in the wired and wireless unit. What is the big difference? I am trying to save some cash, so I was leaning towards the wired.

the wireless version can communicate with other vortech's to coordinate wavemaking. you do not need the wireless. i think it can also communicate with ecotech's Radion LED light but im not sure.
you can always add the feature later with a chip.
"wireless" is kind of misleading because there are the same exact number of wires on a wireless and non-wireless vortech.

Yes the wireless option will communicate with other ecotech products. Like if you had a radion led light when the lights went out at night the pumps would decrease their flow for night mode operation. If you had multiple vortech pumps they would talk to each other and work together or against each other, which ever you decided to do, to achieve your desired chaotic flow. So if you have no plans what so ever to use any of the features they have listed on their website with multiple ecotech products than don't get the wireless module. You can upgrade later if you choose to and they have instructions on how to do this on their website.

Get wireless version so you don't have to worry about upgrading this in case later on you want another vortech.

+1, there is not really a "wired" version. You can get a pumps that communicate with each other (mp10w, mp40w, mp60w), all pumps have to be "wireless"; or you can get pumps that don't communicate with others (only the mp10) but you can later buy the rf module which is only $45 very easy to install and upgrade it to a "wireless".
You can save the money now and if you need the wireless option later you can get the module and at the end it won't be more expensive than buying one that is already wireless, and as I mentioned the installation is easy.

They all have wires. They look the same it's just one can communicate with the other.

I upgrade mine to all wireless when I got the apex WXM module. It is a nice feature, but it is only that. I would get the non wireless version and then upgrade when needed. You could also save a little more money by buying a older version used. Just a thought.

Save your money, spend it where you have too. If you only have one get the wired version if you get the second one you can then upgrade.
