New to Fuge, got a question about skimmer placement

So I got a HOB Fuge for my 28g JBJ nano. This guy is taking up all the room on the back and I can only hang my skimmer on the back of the Fuge. I guess my question/concern is the pump placement for the skimmer (inside the fuge) is in direct path of the overflow back into the tank. Will this suck all the pods in that flow past on there way to the display tank? Not sure how strong of swimmers they are.

So would you say the skimmer pump can be moved to the opposite side of the chaeto algae and will be ok?
