I want to kill the rock from a used tank I just got. How long will it take / how will I know when it is all dead rock and safe to use again? I put it out on the driveway in the sun yesterday and left it over night

You could soak it in a bleach and water mix and or a acid and water mix, some do both, the bleach will get the organics and the acid will strip any po4 and copper if it has any bonded to the rock. Do a search and you will find plenty of info on this subject.

why are you trying to kill it? Whats on it or in it that you are concerned about?

I will be using this rock in addition to the rock I currently use in my 65gal tank. I just don't want any surpises is all. I don't know if anything bad ison it.

Ok its sitting in bleach water now. About half gallon of bleach in 20 gal tub but it is filled with rock so hard to tell how many vgallons or water. Do I need to use more bleach? And how will u know that ts been sitting in the bleach long enough?
