I just filled my tank, got everything running and added live rock.
I haven't seen any hitch hikers yet (besides a snail), but there are three large clams on the rocks. Are they ok for the tank? Do they need to eat something? I was planing on cycling the tank without fish, but looks like my plans have changed...
Anyways, do these guys need something to keep them from kicking the bucket?

Are you absolutely sure those clams are alive? I have very serious doubts that they are. I see old shells but I'd bet there isn't any clam inside.

If they are alive, your cycle will probably kill them. You need strong t5 , MH or good led lights. They need a mature tank (6 months old at least). They are filter feeders and eat microscopic algae they filter out of the water.

I have 3 clams that came with my LR. They survived the cycle and seem to be doing fine.

Yeah I'm 100% sure they're alive, they open and close, that's how I noticed them...
So there's no way to keep them alive:sad2:
If anyone has advice I'm all ears!
I currently have a power compact light fixture... it runs 2 65 watt bulbs, not enough light I take it?

You need more light for those to survive.

Is that a bubble bee snail? If it is, they will eat your zoas and other ployps.

I am more inclined to say those are oysters, does the mantle become exsposed when it opens? can you post pic of mantle or a better pic of the shell to tell what species it may be.

+1 to Oysters, they can be a real challenge to keep alive, and I doubt they will survive the cycle.
