If it's PVC it's reef safe... My local HD didn't have black PVC (in fact I couldn't find it anywhere so I painted mine) The local HD did have the black stuff used for outgoing plumbing (I forget what it's called but it's not PVC and I have no idea if it's reef safe) but as far as I know the stuff isn't drinking water/food safe

I used it on one of my tanks. Been up and running for a year with no issues.

The black stuff is ABS pipe. Its for sanitation.

i just bought white pvc and painted it black. not sure if abs will bond well with pvc fittings?

I am using it for a overflow in a nano so i only need it to bond to glass with silicone

i have never used black pvc as in whole. but have used few elbows or odd pieces that i couldnt find in regular white or grey. i never had any issues but then again a small 1" pvc in a 300 gal may not impact large enough to know the difference.

research it before you buy it. i remember reading comments from people about NOT buying the black abs. however, i can't remember the reason(s). hmph.

we are talking abut abs, not black pvc.

ABS is fine, many bulkheads are made from abs rather than pvc. In my experience, the pvc pipes seemed to slide out of abs fittings rather easily, so apply ample pressure if you are gluing. There is "general purpose" glue designed to transition pvc to abs, but I managed with PVC glue.

FYI most plumbers frown on mixing different types of plastic pipes.

EDIT: Also thought I would add that the places I have ABS to PVC are all drains, not under pressure.
