Is it possible to modify the weir design in a functioning tank.
I really don't like the design of my weir, never realised it would be so inefficient at surface skimming.
This is the design.
I have in my 56x24x24, and a corner weir, which is a glass partitioned area to hold the pipe work to sump and then there's an acrylic wall made in front of the weir glasswork with a gap between, but this sheet doesn't go right to the bottom of the tank, this means that water is drawn off at sand level. There are comb slots in the acrylic to give the impression that there is surface skimming but it doesn't do much of that. After feeding I see the slick on the water surface for quite some time.
I've thought about somehow blocking the bottom gap but than I would end up with stagnant water between outer and inner. I suppose to get a more tradition weir I would have to stop the water being drawn up the gap but how would I do that?
I welcome suggestions
Tony
