70G Refugium for a 55G SPS tank?

Will a 70gallon Refugium connected to a 55G mix reef be an over kill along wiht a skimmer rated for 200 to 300 gallon?

Not really. More water volume never hurts, why not use 70 as main?

for three main reasons, one because all my equipment is used and were given to me ether broken or bad conditions, so my 70G is acrylic and cratched up bad, and my 55G is the only desent one i have for displays, second if i were to setup the 70G i will need more lightthing, and right now i have a 400Watts MH on the 55G, and third because im currectly financial uncapable. i wish i could get new equipment and such but at the momnet i cant.

Yeah.... a 400 watt MH is a little overkill. I would say sell it and get two 250s but, if you cant you can just mount it high enough it doesnt scaled your corals. Get the biggest skimmer you can afford to fit on the tank, if thats a and no.... a 70 isnt overkill for a sump.

One advantage is.....You can put most of LR in the sump to achieve minimal look.

This is a huge plus! I have more rock in my sump than display :)

Like what they say, "RUN WHATCA BRUNG!" Go for it, all too often I see people with large displays and tiny sumps/refugiums. I prefer an equal or if not larger water volume where you can do water changes and put your equipment.

As far as I know the sump is suppose to be bigger than your DT for better results so 70g would be good enough also interested to see how your tank does since most people don't go big with their sump.

The main display is a 55g and the sump is rated for a 150 gallon display, and my refugium is a 70g. So inother words, water from the sump goes to the main display tank and the to the sump and back to the sump. Im also want to add two 10 gallon tanks to keep frags to sell. And i also have a skimmer rated for a 200 to 300 gallon tank. My other question will be how much sand and what type should i add and how much live rock to add to keep my 55G sps display healty and colorful?
