A random brainstorming thought for the day.

Can you use an Apex variable speed port for a fan?

I have been debating removing my glass tops and putting some kind of fan that will blow across the top of the water, hopefully increase evaporation and lower the tank temp some. Mainly to give my poor chiller a break.

So I was pondering first just a $10 wally-world mini box fan, and just replace it every few months when it burns out. Simple if temp > 79 then on kinda thing.

Then I was thinking if I wanted to control the fan speed, i.e. high/low could I use like 4 dc powered case fans, like you see in a PC, and use the Apex variable speed port to power them?

Any thoughts/ideas?

Quote from Kenargo on it:

...... the control voltages from these is very small; used to drive control units; not drive devices like fans. You need something to convert the low power from the base/VDM into higher control voltages needed for your fans.

Figures it wouldn't work the easy way =)

Anyone know anyway to rig up a couple variable speed fans?
