Hi I recently preordered a mckoskers flasher wrasse from my LFS and I called them I check on my wrasse and they said 2 of the 4 wrasses that they have got in already died and it's only been a couple if hours and they said to me that they saved the best looking one for me and then I asked if I should quaritine him and the guy said it was a bad idea to do that cause then the wrasse would have to get use to 2 different homes in a matter of weeks sencr i would only be able to quaritine him for 2-3 weeks. I also have a few other consernes such as should I even buy him sence he was in a bad batch. My tank is about 4 mounts old now with 2 Firefish and a clown And a lot of corals so is my tank mature enough for it. Do I need to feed it twice daily. And my last consern/ question is a egg crate good enough for a lid for this guy
THANKS. please help

Egg crate will not keep a flasher wrasse or firefish in. So is the LFS providing a guarantee? Any LFS that suggests not quarantining has more than a bit of a credibility problem as far as I am concerned.

First and foremost, you should always quarantine new fish, regardless of what they say at the fish store. Here's the problem with McCosker's and other flasher wrasses. If you keep only one, it will lose color. The males require at least one female to keep vivid colors. If you have room for three more fish, I suggest you purchase three juvenile wrasses and put them in quarantine. In a trio like that, one will be dominant and turn male and the other two will become female. QT for six weeks and follow normal quarantine procedures, which can be searched on RC. Be sure to cover both the QT and the Display with 1/4" netting. The smallest opening will result in fish on the floor.

I heard of that and the thing if with mg stickig list I don't have enough room for another wrasse So wht if u get a female will it still lose its color and also if u get a male will it die or be extremely unhappy cause I've heard of plenty of people who have only one so that's why I got one that's also how they keep them in the LFS So will it be bad if I only have one

A single male wrasse is still a pretty fish, just not as outstanding as when they have females to impress. They are a timid fish and mine hides most of the time except when I'm feeding them. There are all kinds of wrasses to choose from. Maybe you should research some of the ones that don't "flash".

IMO they are social fish. if you have 1 you wont see it much, if you have many you wont not see them much. I would say we need more info, what size tank is this fish going in? also what kind of clown? clowns are damsels and are mean. so id suggest research. many flashers come from indo where cynide is a main source of fish collection. so they die. also wrasses are by in large a hardy fish, the fact they died means they were not healthy or handled properly. and never never never NOT QT! anything that cant make it through 2 rounds of prizi and 1 round cuprimine isnt healthy enough to add to my tank. I guess i assume all fish have ich, and should be atleast treated. Thats my thinking hope it helps

Yep it will be out as long as there is no boisterous tank mates, I'd try for a pair off dd, or someplace similar, the reason to keep these fish, besides Thor beauty, is to see them display or females, come 6 o clock my
Tank comes alive with spawning flasher and fairies

seems to me to be a whole lot of misinformation here. I have never heard of flashers losing their color without females. Sure they don't flash as much but lose their color? Look at Bradley's tank. If you don't know who that is google Bradley TOTM and find that article. Not seeing a whole lot of flasher pairs in his tank and I see plenty of color.
Also not social? Really? News to me as long as they are not bullied these fish are generally out and about at all times.
These fish are terrible shippers and will take a few days to settle in. If the others in that order are already dead going and picking this one up is NOT a good idea. It needs to settle in before being moved again and will definitely need time to recoup once moved to your residence. The purchase of this fish seems like a very risky proposition to me sounds like they are coming from a bad source or are being mishandled somewhere along the line.
I got my McCoskers from Divers Den and I didn't think he was going to pull through but is doing great at the moment. DD are the best in the business IMO and even coming from them the shipping stress takes it's toll on these fish.
DD has had a steady supply of McCoskers of late. If you really want one order it from them. Check every day around 5pm central time and get one sent out to you. I order on wednesday or thursday and have the fish sent out on friday on a hold for pickup at my local fed ex first thing saturday morning. It is a standard overnight charge and they hold it at the station and I go pick it up as soon as they open so it isn't out on a truck all day. You have to order on wed or thurs though as if you order on friday they won't ship until monday. You will not find higher quality fish anywhere and no I don't work for them :)

Loss of color in Flasher Wrasses without a female is a fact determined by personal observation and mentioned in other threads on Reef Central.

may be true but I have never heard of it or experienced it personally.
Good luck finding McCosker females.

I have one McCoskers all by it's lonesome and it has lost none of it's color. The only it time it hides is when the lights go out. It flashes all the time. That's a fact from my observation. Besides having females Blue Zoo recommends keeping several flashers of different types as a way to keep them flashing.

That would be up to you but PLEASE QT. I wouldn't want you to go through the troubles that could come for not doing it. I pretty much go with the 6 weeks that Wet Web recommends.

When I order from Divers Den in my tank they go (still risky). If I bought a fish from anywhere else it would be quarantined for a minimum of 6 weeks maybe more.
Make sure the QT has a stable bio-filter and give the fish plenty of hiding spots.
