I tore up my tank to catch my fish, because one had ich.I actually wasn't so satisfied with the rockwork anyway, and I am glad I destroyed it XD. I am not so sure about what would look best. I have a long 80 gallon tank, with no corals yet. Any neat ideas? also show me some pictures to inspire me. Thanks.

This is my 40B. I know everybody frowns upon the rock wall look, but I really like it.

It's a puzzle, just make sure you have enough open spaces for the current to flow. Don't build a wall. GL.

I'm looking forward to playing with my aquascape. I have always liked the looks of rock islands in the sand. I think I will try something along the lines of the 2/3rd rule and have a small island and a larger island split at about 2/3rd down the tank.

that is the style that I had. I just didn't like the way I made it. I did the small and big island. I might try to make the same style again. But I think it is an attractive rockscape

I agree. It looks good, but you might want to try and hide a small maxi behind one of the rocks to give some more flow. Dead spots can accumulate quickly. Being said, I think it looks good!

Where's a good source to research this topic? I'm planning on ordering some rock for my tank in the next couple of weeks and how to scape and what shapes and sizes to request is pretty much the only thing I haven't figured out yet. Is there a gallery on this forum of rock setups? What exactly is a rock wall, and why is it frowned upon?

Rockwall just refers to a wall sloped like a fruit-stand so you can easily set corals on it front to back with the front closest to the sand and the top near the back of the back glass. It isn't so much frowned upon as it's pretty conventional and unexciting to many people. It's all a matter of taste but from a practical perspective it's pretty easy to set up but prone to poor flow because all you're doing is creating a large sloped stack of rocks that makes it easy to trap waste etc.

My phone doesn't seem to be uploading pics at the moment but my avatar is the scape I did last month in my 90 off the bonsai island look.

This is what I did in my 40 Breeder. Its not a wall but has overhangs and caves with lots of real estate for coral as well as ample swimming room on top, in front, behind, and both sides.

I like this. Simple, natural looking, lots of room for corals to grow.

Not sure if this helps, but here's what I did. There been a few long threads on RC with aquascaping ideas over the years. I read through them (takes a while) and saved interesting photos onto my computer in one folder. Soon, when I'm ready to create my own aquascaping, I'll have several dozen inspiring photos to draw ideas from. Just a thought.

There are several threads on aquascaping. Try "aquascaping" in the search box. I usually look for the ones with several pages. Here are few to get you started:
Pillars (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=746318)
Aquascaping and SPS (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1269586&highlight=aquascape)
Show Your AquaScaping! (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2105539&highlight=aquascape)
Aquascaping, Show your Skills (http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1524985&highlight=aquascape)

Keep in mind some of these threads were started years ago and the pictures are no longer where they were when the link was posted.

Here is an article on Aquascaping (http://www.reefsmagazine.com/forum/reefs-magazine/100520-aesthetics-aquascaping.html) which points out many pitfalls people encounter when designing their aquascape.

Good luck!

My new 75 gallon. Still have to find a place for a lot of the corals.
