I have a 260G mix reef. Mainly sps.

A few of them are bleaching while other are growing nicely. Is there a reason for this ? Is it something i do or not do ?

Parameters are as follow
Salinity 1025
Temp° 25.5
Ca 430
Mg 1350
Ph 8.2
Po4 0.03
No3 2
No2 0
KH 7

Thanks

I get this annoying tissue loss when I refill the gfo. I use the brs high capacity stuff. I rinse 1 cup with 2 gallons of tank water run through the reactor.

I've heard from reefers with great sps tanks that redbugs can cause the smooth skinned acros to lose color slowly and possibly die.

I notice that when my tank is too clean my sps's start to loosing colors and turn pale. When I start to feed their colors start to return is a week or so.

Thanks, but thats not the case here. I do not use GFO

I dose Energy A&B daily and 2 times a week a preparation between cycplo-eeze and coral frenzy which i dose individually.

My corals have amazing coloration and look really healthy, but some of them bleached and donīt know why. Whatīs more amazing is that where the tissue hasnīt bleached it is super colorfull.

How long has your KH been at 7? I've heard of people having their SPS bleach from lower KH. Also, what is your flow like? Have there been any recent changes in parameters, flow, lighting, etc.?

I run my tank at the following parameters:
Salinity 1.026
Temp. 76-78F (24.5-25.5C)
pH 8.0-8.2
po4 0.02 or less
no3 5ppm or less
nitrate & ammonia 0ppm
Ca 475-450
dKH (KH) 8.6-8.7
mg 1340-1360

So far all of my SPS are doing great with daily dosing of 2 part EcoCalc. I also do 15% weekly water changes. I also have 900gph through my sump, and an MP10 Vortech (http://ecotechmarine.com/products/vortech/)set on nutrient transport mode 24/7. Ever since I added the Vortech my SPS have taken off and some that were on their way out have completely turned around and are growing like weeds, not to mention amazing colors.

Ann, regarding your question my KH has been like that for about a couple of weeks, but i have noticed bleaching before. I have lost a couple of really nice acroīs

Regarding the water flow, i have a gold hammerhead as a return and 2 mp40īs. Lightning is all LED and i do water changes of 10% every 2 weeks

Thanks

You have a water or light issue,

I would raise the alk and check for aefw the tissue loss is not top or bottom seems to be everywhere on that picture and that is what worries me..and that it isn't the water parameters .

I did a pH meassure on Friday and i was on 7.7 !!!! This might have been the issue i think.

Since saturday iīm adding Superbuffer-dKH from Kent. So tonight will be doing a new test to see if i had any improvement in ph and Kh meassurements.

When it comes to aefw, how do i identify it ? What should i look for ? How do i treat it ? Why does it only happen in some sps and not all of them ?

Sorry but not familiar with aefw

You can use a turkey baster and blow the base of your coral, you will see them come flying off.I dont think you have aefw because I see it happening to your non acro sps. most likely alk related.

I had the same issue a few years back when I really started getting into sps. Some you do fine and grow but other would not last long and stn. Colors where always pretty poor as well. I my case I found that I was no where near keepin the tank alk, ca and sg stable. They where with in good levels but having a swing every few day to a week was taking its toll. Stability did it for me simple fix too ATO with kalk and I tested almost daily for several months to get things dialed in. Now I never test unless something is wrong.
