I will be redoing my 300G setup and will be going "bare bottom" however, I would really like to put some type of "plastic" on the bottome of the tank and glue sand to it....

Any one have any experience with this or thoughts?

Thanks
Jim Mc

At one time "starboard" was commonly used to protect bare bottom tanks. Not sure about gluing sand to it though.

I've seen that a few times, and I just don't think it looks natural. It tends to look plasticy, and dirty. It looks great for a while, but unless you thickly polyurathane it, it gets algae-y, and if you cover it in plastic, it looks like plastic.

However, starboard is what you're looking for.

In time it will grow coraline and turn colors. It will look good for a while.
Imo it is a waste of time to add the sand. The protection the starboard adds is important
in my opinion.
