When I had my 220, I had a 4-6" deep sand bed. I seem to remember the deep sand be being the recommendation back then. Can't remember the exact reason. Something about it creating an anoxic layer I think. The LFS (I know, don't always trust what they say) is saying that that's not necessary if I have enough live rock. What do you guys recommend?

Really up to you. I had a deep sand bed also but with new tank I went with smaller bed and less live rock...

I had a dsb on my old setup and after 4-5 years it was nothing but a headache. This time around i went shallow with a a good amount of live rock. IMO go with a remote dsb in a fuge setup. Easier to maintain and change out if needed.

Wouldn't a deep bed provide more copepods? The reason I ask is after my 220 was up for about 4 years, I added a mandarin dragonnette and he did really well, I believe, because of the size of the tank and the amount of pods he had to eat. I would like to eventually have another one.
