Are you looking for variable speed control, or simply ON/OFF control?

If variable control, Vortechs and controllable Tunze are the only supported options.

Any other powerheads/circulation pumps will be limited to ON/OFF control.

I was able to save some $$ by adding a few maxi 400's in my cube. It's not a vortech, but you can setup some pretty interesting flow

I am looking for variable speed, one that I can connect to the apex base module

In that case, Tunze controllable pumps are your only option.

You can get a Maxi-jet 1200 at Amazon now for 1.23. It's not variable speed but who cares!

Given the stunning quality of the "new" MJs, that's in my opinion overpaying...

True.... one consistently won't start without physically fiddling with it

Anyone have a source for viable old MaxiJets? I think the current ones were manufactured in China. If they have to outsource, I'd prefer they be made in Italy...

The old MJs are now being sold as Cobalt Aquatics. BRS and Marine Depot both carry them. I've ordered one and it does indeed appear to be the old, reliable, quiet model.

Which, given its high quality, reliability, and practically ridiculous level of popularity, obviously had to be killed.
