Currently using an epoxy filled Rio 800 UL to feed my calcium reactor -- so it faces some backpressure. I have a Mag 7 for the recirculation of the reactor.

I'm wondering if someone can suggest a more quiet pump than the Rio -- this is one is incredibly loud, in fact louder than my Mag 9.5 return pump. I bought a Mag 1.9 to replace it, but that unfortunately is even louder than the Rio.

If anyone can suggest a small submersible feed pump that is reliable and won't break my eardrums I would appreciate it, thanks.

Eheim hobby pumps work great and are really quiet. I've had the 1250 & currently 1262, both are awesome.

If it's humming or vibrating rubber cups on the bottom help a ton!!

Thanks, the rio has suction cups but is still loud.

Maybe I'll give the Eheim a try, it uses less power than the Rio, but per dimensions is about twice as big.

I bought a variable peristaltic constant duty pump off ebay for $125 shipped. It's very very quiet and I can make fine adjustments on its output from 50ml per min all the way up to 1,000 ML per min plus. Check out ebay for variable peristaltic pumps, they are on there all the time. The company I bought mine from wanted $200 but I made an offer for half that. They declined it but once the auction ended they sent me an email saying they would except. SCORE!

I am surprised your Rio makes a lot of noise. I have 2 Rio Plus 3100 pumps, and they are quiet, absolutely silent. They both sit on a stand with suction cups, and these came with the pump. If you don't have or have lost that stand, that is likely the reason they are noisy.

I'm surprised it's so loud too. It's a tiny pump and the four suction cups are integrated into the housing. I can hear it over the two mag 9.5s and mag 7 I have running for other things. Maybe I'll try taking it apart and reassembling.

I love eheim pumps and I am a freak about noise.

If you don't need the pressure though, a Maxijet would probably work and is much cheaper and they are silent as well IME.

Good Luck.

I have a maxijet 1200 lying around so its worth a shot. Otherwise Eheim it is.

This. I went through numerous pumps to feed my reactor. They all had some kind of issue. Tee'd off the return and never looked back!
