Best picture I've been able to get, unfortunately. He's got a similar spot on the other side near the mouth, and a smaller one between his eyes.

Not much to go on. Any small spots, skin problems, or is just discoloration? If this is a new fish (hopefully in a QT) I would guess this is nothing more than stress-induced discoloration. Very common and will go away.
No small spots. Not sure if it's a skin problem, or just discolouration.
It showed up about 3 weeks into QT.

Still no luck on figuring out what my fish has...
From further observation, I think the marks are from rubbing up against the PVC tubes in the QT tank. He's been doing that on occasion while I've been watching, and it looked very deliberate.
There are also small, white things crusted onto the glass in the QT now. None on the fish, though. They're mostly between 1/16" and 1/8" across.
