Ok, I'm trying to do maintenance on my phosphate reactor, and I can't get the top screwed off :hmm3: I've tried the hot water trick, and it just doesn't seem to budge. Any hints or tips to get this thing apart?? Its a Two Little Fishes Reactor...

try tapping on the lid around the edges to break the buildup on the threads

I use a pair of rubber gloves for better grip. Works like a charm.

Ok, I finally got it open after struggling for a while. HOLY COW, I know I didn't screw it on that tight to begin with, LOL @ scarface

use a screwdriver and wedge it between the two nozzles, for leverage. thats what i go and grab when its stubborn.

I had mine plugged in for just a couple of days and needed to open it and I noticed the same thing. I hope it seals that well when I'm on vacation.

Use a rubber strap wrench to enable you to twist the top off.

Check the O-ring seal condition to see if its crushed down or deformed and there may be a thin plastic back-up washer between the top and the rubber o-ring. When you re-assemble the TLF reactor, use some silicone lube (Rainbow Lifegard) on the o-ring (minimal amount) and that should help with removing the top the next time.

I have to use this wrench every time. I will try the silicone.

I read this on another forum. If you take the tubes off and pour the water in the sink it depressurizes it. It worked for me.

Lifesaver! I was trying to get my top off and stumbled upon this. Thanks!
