I am going to be making a DIY LED fixture for a couple of my tanks, and want some opinions on the number of LED's needed. I plan on going with Cree LED's and RapidLed kits.

First, to gain some practice, I am going to make a a fixture for my coral quarantine tank I am setting up. It will be a standard 10g aquarium. I believe one of the 6 LED retrofit kits would work on a tank this small. Am I correct?

Second, I will be making a fixture for my 40g breeder. A lot of people are suggesting that a 36 LED retrofit kit would be perfect. But others are suggesting more for SPS. Should I go with 36 LED's (3 rows of 12) or 48 LED's (4 rows of 12)?

I have LED's on my 40 Breeder Frag tank in which I'm seeing great SPS growth. The system I'm using is as follows.

Circuit 1 700 ma drive with 4 Royal Blues LED's and 4 Blue LED's
Circuit 2 700 MA driver with 4 Aqua LED's 4 Royal Blue LED's
Circuit 3 1050 ma driver with 6 Neutral White and 6 Blue LED's

My lighting schedule is
11:00 AM Curcuit 1 on
Noon circuit 2 On
1:00 PM circuit 3 ON
8:00 PM circuit 3 off
10:00 PM circit 2 off
midnight circuit 2 off

For heat sinks I'm using 2" X 1" channel alumnium without fans. I do not have a heating problem even though there is little circulation with another tank above them.
