The overflow box (toothless) I plan to build from 1/4" acrylic will be approximately 9" wide, 4" front to back and 5" deep. Two holes will be drilled in the back for a Herbie/siphon drain. Does this box need any internal support from front to back to maintain its shape?

Mine is almost like this size and I have no internal support except mine has 3 holes for failsafe silent overflow style. You can always run a piece of acrylic (front to back) on top as support.

Thanks fishuntbike. I saw an overflow with internal suport and wondered if it was overkill or not.

I've got one that is 10" wide that I made. Also of 1/4" acrylic with no internal support. I haven't had any problems with it not being sturdy enough.
