Hello,

Sorry if this is the wrong forum but I am trying to figure out what this fish is. I recently bought a tank and inherited its inhabitants. The guy I bought the tank from was an idiot and had no clue what the fish was. He is really aggressive and almost seems too big for the tank (it is a 125). I want to get rid of him, but I would like to know what type of fish he is so I can see if a local store will even take him. Sorry for the crappy pics but he is pretty fast and doesn't like to sit still very much. He is mostly black, has a bit of white on his back and some blue high lights on the edges of his fins and some blue lines behind his eyes.

Pretty sure that's some type of Grouper. He's likely to just get bigger and eat anything you put in there that's smaller than him.

Yes, it is. They are extremely aggressive as adults.

Exactly like that. He is the biggest A-hole I have in the tank. When I moved all my fish over from my old tank they stay at one end and he has 50% of the tank to himself.

Yes, a Neon Blue Velvet Damsel. I've had one living alone in a FOWLR 55 gallon setup for 10 years before he died a few months ago.
He had a habit of clearing all the sand to one side of the tank and knocking around any rocks he didn't want around..... forget about corals.
I made the mistake of buying him as a cute, colorful youngster for my frag grow out tank. Didn't have the heart to get rid of him when he got bigger, so I've kept him all these years in his own tank. It got pretty big at 6 inches and hefty.
I never had him with other fish, but he was very territorial. He would actually bite my hand and arm when cleaning the glass around his hiding place..... sometimes hard enough to draw blood.
I'd say unless you plan to keep him in his own FOWLR tank I would take him back.

I wish I could take him back. Got a killer deal on a tank on CL and the fish came with it. The idiot owner was supposed to get rid of them and didn't try very hard so he just gave them to me. The mated cinnamon clowns are pretty cool but the Damsel is a jackass. I am going to see if one of the LFS around here will take him.
