I bought my Banghaii Cardinal yesterday, and tried feeding both formula two flake and formula one pellet and all he has done has take it in, and spit it right back out...only been a day, but what should I do?

I'm no expert, but maybe try frozen mysis or Rod's Food ?

both of mine only eat mysis and are even fussy about the size - they won't eat small pieces

Banggai tend not to take to prepared foods like flake or pellet, and Formula 2 is an herbivore food. They like meaty foods, so offer some mysis. I also offer mine small chunks of shrimp or fish whenever I feed my anemones, which they love.

mysis. If that doesn't work get some live brine from your LFS to get them eating.

My two only eat frozen mysis shrimp. No pellets or flakes.

Make sure when you get frozen mysis you get rid of the water the shrimp is in its gross. Dethaw rinse away water do not put it in your tank. It will up your nitrates and phosphates if not. No one tells you this about mysis.

I dethaw all the blocks strain the shrimp and fill an ice cube tray with ro/di and the cleaned mysis and then you get good shrimp everyday and don't have to worry about.

I feed mine live blood worm and they go crazy for it. If not try mysis. But I had the best luck with live blood worm.

Mysis as well here. Will have to try the blood worms. Where do you get them live? I only see frozen around here.

My local fish store sell live blood worm for $1 a scoop. One scoop usually last me about a week.

It's pretty normal for fish to not eat right away, but the right food helps, lol. You like your new cardinal? Maybe should get it a buddy, they tend to like small groups.

Just like the others have said. Mine only ate frozen brine or mysis for the first year or so. He now will eat flakes, but my previous one never did. Good luck with him.

It took me years to finally get my bangai to eat pellets but only from the water surface for some reason. He has no interest to sinking pellets.

Same as above. I'll add my own experience with my Bangai. I bought it and it wouldn't eat even the frozen mysis shrimp I was feeding everyone else. It went 4 days without eating. So, I went to the LFS where I got it and asked what they were feeding it. He said frozen brine shrimp. I bought some brine shrimp, mixed it with the mysid and, presto changeo, it started to eat. Been eating whatever frozen I give it ever since. Maybe find out what they were feeding it at the pet store and try that to start.

And, no, they won't eat flake/pellet food. Mine mouths it and spits it out and looks at me with contempt.

I am by means no expert, but Randy has just written an article on this very subject. It seems rinsing is not really necessary.

Not sure if the brand matters, but PE Mysis seems to be highly regarded.

Echoing everyone else, mine only eat frozen. I feed (mostly) PE mysis, Prime Reef, and some DIY frozen seafood blend.

Mine are tank raised and will still only eat frozen.

Update: bought SFB Mysis, which is what my LFS sells...idk what PE is actually. Anyways, the Banghaii took down as many pieces as he could dart after, and i finally got to see him eat :) so im very happy. Mine is tank raised which I am also happy about because I paid no attention at purchase, but later found out many wild caught BCs do not live long, and many only make it a week or two, so I'm relieved i have a tank raised !

Happy he's eating for you and you got a tank raised/ bred cardinal. If only we had the fish farming like we do coral farming...
