I picked up what was described as a "scratch and dent" sun coral for a good price. I think it was neglected and I wasn't even sure if it was even alive. Its been in the tank since Tuesday, and I bucket fed it a few times trying to get the polyps to come out and tonight it finally decided to show its face

It looks like there is hope for it yet

I have brought back sun corals in MUCH worse condition than that.

When polyps is receeded inside the skeleton and when zero tentacles are visible on the polyps I find powdered foods tend to work best.

As soon as the polyps start to show the tentacles like in your picture you can start feeding solids pellets (I feed the Fauna Marin LPS food) or you can feed mysis or anything else the polyps will grab onto.

Nice score!
Keep feeding it and in no time it will be back to full health.

Looks like you have a winner! Just keep feeding!

Good score. Just be patient, keep feeding it and it'll be completely open in no time! People make the care of suns and dendros sound much harder than it actually is. I target feed about 500 heads in about 15 minutes, every night. Small price to pay for these beautiful creatures

Quick update, it eats like a pig, at least one cube of mysis per night, sometimes two
