putting larger sand on top of finer grade

I have a tank thats almost a year old and was wondering if it would be ok to put larger sized grains directly on top of smaller grains. Currently my tank has the smaller grain, but it moves around too much. It gets on the corals and the rocks and I wanted someway of keeping it down.

Yes but you need to do it slowly over time. Say, a cup or two a day until the desired coverage is attained. I suggest turning all flow off and using a clean PVC pipe like a long funnel to direct the sand to the location of your choice. Initially when you turn the flow back on there will be some movement but it should settle pretty quickly. Good luck.

I did it for the same reason as you. As noted, just take your time and build thin layers up slowly.
