We have a 29 gallon BioCube HQI and are thinking about switching out our HQI metal halides with LEDs... Any ideas on what would work best without having to hang them from the ceiling? I would like to get ones that we can attach to our tank.

Any Ideas would be great!

Also we would like to have all different types of corals as we go.

They make a biocube with a LED hood. You should be able to swap out your old hood for the one with LED's.

Really? I've seen the jbj nanocube led but not the biocube.

Before I sold my biocube 29 I was seriously considering one of the rapidled retros for the biocube, but I don't think they work with the hqi version. Kessil lights have an option to buy a gooseneck for them. That might be an option.

We don't have a regular biocube... We have the hqi version, this is what it looked like shortly after set up.

It doesn't have a hood... It has a glass top.

*we were also thinking aot looking in to maybe keeping the halide light fixture and maybe making a mod to it? If we can't find something else.

I mounted 4 ecoxotic 12" stunner strips to my HQI fixture 2 on each flange next to the MH grid panel by drilling 2 holes in each flange one at each end and using zip ties. I also use their 4 way splitter with switches. I continue to use the MH with a 20K bulb for 6h then switch the led's

Here's a pic I found of the kessil goosenecks.

Thanks for the idea! Always nice to hear from someone who has an HQI too!

And thanks for finding that picture! I was looking for a tank mounted picture

I guess I was thinking of the jbj tank. I found a website that you can buy a retrofitted hood for the biocube. I will give you the link.http://shop.stevesleds.com/Biocube-29-Gallon-LED-retrofit-kit-Biocube-29-Gallon-retrofit-kit.htm I looked at the light and it's dimmable. I saw a light at one of the fish stores I go to and the light is just like your HQI light but LED.

Any suggestions for good cheap moonlights?

I have a 29 gal HQI and put a Kessil 150W LED with the gooseneck on mine. There is a bit of an issue doing this. The molded plastic where you need to attach the gooseneck to is too deep. I had to take my dremel and cut some of the plastic out. Then, because the plastic is not solid but fins of plastic, I had to size another piece of plastic that I could glue over the fins. This gave me a flat surface to attach the gooseneck. The light itself seems to be plenty bright. It is a bit more blue than a 14K HQI bulb.
