Starfish and Sand

So I've been reefing for a few years but have always had sand in my tank. Now I am thinking about going bare bottom, and have a couple of brittle and serpent stars. Do these guys need sand? Or am I safe to go bare bottom?

not really, they can do without, not sand sifting starfish though.
