Hey reefers
Is Chaetomorpha indigestible? I have a blue tang that poops a long string of what looks like dead chaeto. It is a long white string, and it doesn't move on its own so i don't think it's a worm.

He only poops long white strings for a few days after I shake the chaeto in my display tank from the fuge.

Does this ever happen to you guys? I think my blue tang eats without chewing. bad manners :headwally:

If your absolutely positive it's chaeto, I wouldn't worry too much about it. I used to feed my tangs leaf lettuce. It was lettuce in, lettuce out. It looked exactly the same. If your not sure if it's chaeto, white stringy feces is not good.

As long as it is Chaetothere are no worries, mine has done the same. He seems to prefer it but as has been said, they do not digest it very well.

Does this mean they are getting no nutritional value from eating these items?

I wouldn't say none, but there are better options out there. (flakes) As long as it's eating something. That's all that counts sometimes.
