Testing my water

whats a good test kit thats not too hard on the wallet,i need to test the water in my tank

API is a good starting point. Tetra has always been good to me though.

Salifert has always been very consistent for me

I would say depends on what you are testing.

API has been good for ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate.

Red Sea Pro for Calc, Mag and Alk

I wouldnt use anything else but a hanna for phosphates. IMO its important to have a real number than inbetween some numbers
