I got the rest of my test kits in the mail today. Refractometer and Red sea pro ca/mag/alk and phosphate. I tried them out for the first time to start learning. The tank has been up at 2.0ppm ammonia for the past 8 days. No live rock and no live sand. No nitrites or nitrates yet. 1 raw shrimp and nothing else has been added.

Results:

Ph 7.8
Salinity 1.025
Alk 9.0
Cal 440
Mag 1400
Phosphate .36ppm

I knew the ca/mag/alk should be close to right from nothing being in the tank. I know <.02ppm is the goal, and I have a brs gfo reactor ready to be installed, but I wanted to wait to cycle ended.

My question is, how bad is .36 ppm?

Side note: I know my cycle is going to take awhile, but I have plenty of time. My dad and I are still building the cabinet, that's gonna be another 4 weeks. I'm just letting the dt cycle in the meantime.

If any of the shrimp still is visible, I'd remove it and pitch it. The phosphate level should be okay since this phase likely is temporary. :)
