Hey guys im up gradin my 90 to a new 600. And i was wonder whats tye best way to move every thing from the 90 to the 600 saftly. The 90 will be my sump and i was planning on putting all the fish and corals in 44 gallon brute trash cans. Then i was going to put the 90 as the sump and an old 70 gallon as a refuim. Or i might switch the 90 and the 70 as a sump or fuge. Any way i have sand in the 90 and was wondering as long that i dont mess with it can i reuse it in the fuge or tank? Its about 1-2 inches deep depending on the area in the tank and is about 4-5 months old. Thanks

That's quite an upgrade.

You will have to monkey with the sand. I would not advise moving the 90 with the sand still in it.

All the rest sounds like a good plan.

I would say a 90 is too small for a sump for a 600 gallon tank

IMO....you are best setting up a 600 while the 90 is still running. Let the 600 cycle then move your livestock and rock over. Sand I would just dry out and sell.

And I also agree a 90 will not be near big enough for a 600, especially if you want to incorporate a fuge that will be effective on the tank. IMO you would need a tank at least half the DT for a sump. Especially if your going to use an in sump skimmer.

I think it would be best to first get all the equipment you are going to use, especially whats going to go in the sump and then determine the sump size.

Cycle a 600 for the animals of a 90? How do you do that? I would think you could dump everything from the 90 into the 600 and never see a cycle to begin with. Sure, it could go through a cycle stage, but, would you really see it on a test kit? Thats a lot of water, lol. I guess it is easier to build bacteria and let it die back to what ever the animals of the 90 are.

Thanks for the help. The 90 will be drilled and connected to a 70 gallon corner. The skimmer is an external next ree xxl. It hold about 25 gallons of water. I didnt know that you had to cycle the new tank. I thought you just had to tranfer all the live rock and sand over to the new one. O well. Thanks again
