The new tank I bought has a return line that includes a siphon break at the top, right below the elbow. I want to plug that hole. The way it's positioned puts it above the water line and it sprays water all over my light and makes a bunch of noise.

What would be the best thing to use to plug that hole? I just added live rock yesterday, so I don't know how long I can leave things turned off waiting for the material to cure if I were to use Silicon.

Does anyone have any ideas? I saw that you can use GE Silicon (http://www.homedepot.com/h_d1/N-25ecodZ5yc1v/R-202038071/h_d2/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10053&langId=-1&keyword=silicone&storeId=10051) from Home Depot, but I don't know how long it has to cure.

Epoxy? Coral Glue (Cg)? Super glue gel?

Epoxy? Coral Glue (Cg)? Super glue gel?

Are you saying that I can use any one of them? The hole is only about 1/8" in diameter.

I had the same problem and used some coral putty.

Instant Ocean 2 part epoxy. I plugged a bulk head with that. Just lower your water level, mix, and apply.

There is not a great deal of pressure in a return line so I am sure you could just use epoxy or silicone. Ultimately, since its an elbow, cant you just replace the elbow?

Maybe replace the entire section from the bulkhead with locline Which would still inherently have a siphon break but would no longer spray water everywhere.

I ended up using some of the coral putty epoxy stuff and it worked just fine. Although, after draining the overflow, I went to pull the entire tube out of the bulk head and found out that the elbow with the hole I wanted to plug, wasn't glued down. So I could have just as easily replaced the elbow for $0.50.

I guess I should have checked that first. :D
