I've been reading/seeing a lot more posts about nuisance algaes in reefers display tanks lately.
In many cases the reefer states they have a refugiums, growing macros.
My question is this
Are you actually harvesting these macros?
As I said, I am being Cpt Obvious, but just in case someone out there doesn't understand how this works, I will explain in very basic terms.
Nutrients, nitrates and phosphates, will be absorbed by the macros.
When you harvest the macros, manually remove portions of them from your fuge, you are removing these nutrients.
If you don't, harvest, or forget, or take to long to do so, these algaes can grow so large there is not enough nutrients to sustain there mass and they begin to breakdown and release these nutrients back into your system.
