View Full Version : would 2, MP10w's be too much for a 30g cube?

I really want to make sure that I have enough flow for my tank. (oceanic 30g cube) I bought 1 new mp10w a while back for the build and am contemplating on adding another before the tank is even up and running. I just want to be sure I am not going to have a hurricane in my tank. I am building it up right now and have the funds to go ahead and get it I just need someones opinion that has put 2 of these on a tank before. I think it would be very cool to have the kind of flow that 2 of these slaved together could provide.

I ran one MP10 in a 30Gal Solana seemed like enough flow for the mix I had.

Anyone else have an opinion?

I would say two is a tad bit overkill for a 30 gallon. Just one MP10 would be good. Especially since it's a cube.

I asked the same a little while back about my 25 gallon cube.

Also, there is a forum member who has a 25 gallon cube with two and their build is here:

One other thing I would mention is that I recently had my wet side fall off the glass leaving my tank without flow. If I would have had a second it would not have put my livestock at risk.

Depends what you want to keep in it? if you do get 2 you can alway wind down the flow. I'm actually going to get another for my 30g but its not really a cube and I have lots of SPS.

I think 1 is more then enough, if you have money and want to run them at around 50-75% then go for it. At full blast it makes that annoying high pitched whinning sound. Another benifit is the wireless. Might be good if you have a SPS dominate tank.

I had two on a 45 cube. It was fine and I had them down to 25% to be honest. The problem I find with cubes is that you need to turn them up with one and blast what's in front of it to get good lower circulation. (Obviously depending on your aquascaping). I liked having two to have very random flow and options for my pump placement.
If your wet side fell of your return pump should be plenty to keep the tank alive. I wouldn't let that sway your opinion.

Ok well that settles it. I'm getting the second one, I think I would rather have 2 running at a lower level than pushing 1 to its limits constantly.

Great choice. I think I will be doing the same shortly.
