I would cut off the part covering the LED to create the shimmer that I want, and I would use it for a macroalgae display tank.
Thanks!

I've used a 2300k bulb for a while and threw a reptical bulb I had on that's 6500k. From what I've read thats what you want. I think your bulb will work though

I should have been more specific. I know the spectrum will be fine, but will the wattage be enough?

I used a 10000k on my 15 gal tank just for plants and they grew just fine. The wattage to me would depend on tank size. I'm more of a freshwater guy. I do 2-3 watts per gallon on my fresh and 3-4 of my salt plant tank.

I thought we got rid of the watts per gallon rule?

I'm not sure, because I'm thinking on a freshwater scale. I use the same method for my macro plant tank and it works.

With the different lighting these days the watt per gallon is hard to use. Since LED output so much light for so littlew wattage LED W per gallon might need to have its own set of rules. As for the bulb i have a very similar version only 6 watts though 5000k color as well. I used those 5$ clip reflectors originally with a 6500 12w spiral flouresent bulb. My chateo is growing much better now.
IME 10k do ok looks better as a cooler white
6500k is the standard for growing macros but has a yellow tint
5000k i only have LED so i cannot say for sure but i found the best growth
2500k little to no growth.
So im not sure if its the LED that made the difference or if it was the color but i have very happy with my 5000k LED.
What is the size you will be using for the macros?

I would have used the 12w 5000k , but I just went out and bought a cheaper light setup consisting of 3 CFL bulbs.
But if I want it for the future it will definitely work? You use the same thing but only 6 watts?
