Hi all, i'm looking to pick up a nano-cube and i'm having trouble making up my mind so i was hoping you guys could help. I have access to a 24 nano cube on CL, which i could probably get for $70, although it comes with no accessories, just a bare bones tank (seen below). I think my other option is to go with the 28 gallon which is $300 shipped (also seen below). The new tank comes with a stand and the following "features":

105 watt 10,000°K/7,100°K compact fluorescent lighting
(4) Nite-Vu LED lighting with separate power cord
(2) Powerheads
(2) Directional flow nozzles
(1) Ocean Pulse Duo alternating wavemaker
(2) Integrated cooling fans
3-stage filtration with removable media basket
Center overflow system
Designated area for a heater (heater sold separately)
Designated area for a protein skimmer (protein skimmer sold separately)
Flame retardant ABS canopy housing
Thermal protector for canopy (Auto Shut Off protection)

If i went with the 24 gallon i would build my own LED lights like seen here: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/lofiversion/index.php/t267432-0.html Also, i would most likely try to rig up an HOB skimmer and potentially a fuge if it would fit. I would also have to build a stand and buy pumps... If i bought the new tank i would probably set it up stock for a while. I'm really weighing my options because both seem attractive. At the end of the day it's a used tank which may have flaws for $70, and being that the entire new setup is $300 shipped, there is a point that you just buy new.

Is there anything else you guys recommend for getting the tank cycling? I'll be buying salt and a water test kit.

Also, how many of you guys use eggcrate under your rocks/substrate?

maybe one of the mods could move this thread to the 'new to the hobby' section?
