Right now i have my lights (led) set while i am home, 3 hours in the morning back on in late afternoon for 6 hours. Is it better if i set it for continuous 9 hours?

Not necisarrilly. It may Not be optimal but it will work. I've bean readig about corals usig light energy and it seems they only use the light energy for 7-8 hours, starting by using the energy very slowly and using more and more around six hours then they start to use less very rapidly.
If it works and you like it then it's fine.
I start my lights aroun 3pm natural sunlight hits the tank around 5-8pm then after11pm my daylights turn off and the actinics run or an hour before shutting off. I like the direct sunlight to hit the tank around 3-4 hoursafter I turn the lights on so they can use the suns light optimally.

i have a similar led schedule like MichiganMike.
mine blues come on at 3pm and raise upto 25% over 1 hr. then whites and royal blue come on at 4 and all 3 raise upto w50 b75 rb25 over next 2 hrs and stay at that strength for 5 hrs then down to 0 over next 2 hrs. so a total of 8 hrs a day.
