Looking for suggestions for a HOB Skimmer for a 29 gallon reef. Top of my budget is $150. I have been looking at these 3...

Octopus BH-100
Bak-Pak 2R+
Eshopps PSK-75H

I think in am leaning towards the Octopus. Any suggestions/thoughts on what one works the best? Or another that I could get for under $150.

Thanks

Both Octopus and Eshopps are good. They certainly beat the Bak Pak. Have you looked at Aquamaxx as well? I got the Warner Marine (Aquamaxx bought them out and made a smaller, but similar unit I believe) but the pump is within the skimmer and only an inlet tube is within your DT. I dont like pumps in my tank if I can avoid it. Plus Aquamaxx and WM skimmers are beasts.

I have the PSK 75 (sump model). Very happy with it.

I think I might just pony up the extra $$ and go with the AquaMaxx HOB-1. Seems to have a lot of good reviews. Looking online, about $199 the best a person can do for a new one?

I have been running the eshopps 100 for 3 weeks now and I love it! Much better then the super skimmer that I was running.

I like the external pump, easily removable collection cup, and a over flow elbow on the collection cup.

I have the Aquamaxx HOB1. It is on my 56 gallon tank, which is in the second week of cycling. My impressions are favorable so far. Well made. Easy to clean. Powerfull pump. Very quiet.

The cons so far are microbubbles and it isn't producing skimmate yet but, that is because there isn't much to skim and the skimmer isn't broken in yet. I am looking forward to the Aquamaxx break in and watching it work with a large bio-load.

Can anyone tell me how high above the tank rim the Aquamaxx HOB-1 goes/sits? It says it is 17" tall, so I'm guessing about 5 inches... Will probably want to use it in the future on a sump under the tank. Want to make sure I have enough height under the tank.

Think about the reef octopus bh1000. I had a remora on my tank and it did ok. I put the bh1000 on an wow what a difference. Darker skim, easy to adjust the cup, easy to clean.

I have a bc 29 and the bh1000 input is in chamber 2 and the output is in chamber 3.

What did you go with? I'm in the same exact same boat, same budget too.

I went with the bh1000. Much much superior to the remora.

Unfortunately, Hurricane Sandy destroyed many systems up here in NJ. I have moved onto a slightly larger tank and a SRO1000 INT skimmer.

Do you have a BH1000?

No, I dont have one yet, i was just doing some research.. I have a 30 gal tank that desperately needs one. My budget is around the same as yours way, but the BH1000 is been looking good to me

I have an aqua euro skimmer in my 36G tank. It was simple to install, very quite, and broke in in about a week. Only thing negative is the water pump is inside the tank, and is kind of large. However, it's not to bad and it makes up for it in perfoamce. If the pump being in the tank wouldn't bother you, I highly suggest this skimmer.
