My Spectrapure Maxcap 90 RO/DI system is 6 months old. I am getting 51 TDS in the silica buster and 54 out. I've got 30 TDS out of the RO membrane. What as the possible problems I need to look at.

Could this be an error with the sensors?

What pressure Are you running it at. Is that with an inline meter or hand held. Have you gotten a second meter to double check?

Double check the readings and check your pressure. Do you flush the membrane often?

60 psi, gauge mounted to the wall of RO membrane canister.

How is flushing performed?

There are two dual TDS meters on this system. They are inline.

If the TDS meter is accurate, seems like you need to replace the RO membrane and the downstream filters. What's the TDS of the water feeding the RO?

Given the readings as being correct, your membrane is shot. You also need new DI resin (both canisters).

Now, it only took 6 months for your membrane to get that bad... They should last much longer than that (a few years) unless you're making enormous amounts of water. It would be beneficial to know the quality of the water coming into the unit before ALL filtration.

Are you running off well water or chlorinated city water?

TDS into the RO membrane is 800+, out is 30. 50 out of silica busters. Used to be about 3-4. Then 00 out of first silica stage and second.

Nevermind then, your membrane is fine.

You simply need new DI resin (the silica buster stuff) is all. With a TDS of 30ppm going into the DI you'll chew through DI resin pretty quickly, but that's how it will be because of your 800+ water entering the system. As a side note, you do not necessarily have to use the silica buster as replacement. Any standard deionization resin from a place like Bulkreefsupply will work just fine.

Hope that helps!

Perfect! Exactly the information I was looking for. Thank you Eel!

Holy cow! 800+?!? its no wonder you have gone through your DI that quick. I wouldnt be surprised if your RO is on its way out too.. I dont know if maybe putting another couple stages of sediment filters before your RO would help at all?
