well i am always reading horror stories on here and while they all have probably thousands of dollars and me not pulling out my hair i have decided to share with yall something i have done right in the crazy hobby.
i started to see signs of algae and unfortunatly the beginning signs of dinoflagellates. i toyed with all of the options, lights out, peroxide, raising the pH, blah blah blah and after about 6 nonstop hours of reading about algae from 6pm till midnight last week i decided to start slow. For starters, I try to keep my system extremely simple and not running dosers and reactors for the first few years so i can learn how this hobby works and how much i actually need to dose and have in the tank instead of a computer do it for me. But I gave in and bought carbon and GFO reactors.
So going back to the remedy, last Tuesday was the last night for my lights. I did a total blackout until Saturday morning so it was roughly 84 hours and I was now running my reactors now. Well saturday afternoon at 2:00 my actinic lights came back on and for 2 days i only ran actinics, the 3rd day turned all the lights back on for the normal photo-period.
So its been 4 days and not only have the dinos gone away completely but so has all my other algae, which was much, but it sure it good to see gone!!!!
sorry fot the long post, but i wanted to share to all you guys!!! Man i love this hobby!
