Would 2 Hydor Koralia Magnum 6's on a wave timer be to much for a 6 foot 125? I'm starting a 125 and have 800 going through the sump/return.

Should be fine, but if you have a sand bed it might be an issue. I was looking at them because I have seen them in action, but I couldn't talk myself into the size of the pump. They are not small.

What do think about the Magnum 5's or should I go smaller yet. Sand bed is 2" of Carib Sea Special Grade Sand.

I have a 300 gallon 8ft tank and I have my eye on some magnum 7 or 8 but i keep reading how the magnum 7 was too much for some people's 6ft 180.

Really?

I run 2 mag 6's on a 125 with the same sand and didn't have issues till I added 2 mp10's cranked up with the mag 6's going. Now the sand moves a bit.

Because of the tank length, I'm now thinking maybe 4 of the 1400's on a wave controller would be better.

Tinkman, why did you add 2 mp 10's on top of the 6's?

Anyone have more suggestions with out braking the bank with mp's.

Would 4 1400's be a better way to go for a 6 footer and how would you place them.

I have four 1400's in my tank and they are not going to be enough for you. My tank is actually bigger volume wise, but the longest side is 36". They work pretty well for me, but I would go bigger for a six foot tank. I think the Magnum 6 or 7's would work well (one on each side), but they are big and ugly and they are going to move your sand if not setup perfect.

I have 2 magnum 6' on a 6ft long 135 one on each end in the back corner about 10" off the sand and pointing at about a 30 degree angle up and toward the front glass and 2 1050's pointing in the opposite directions at first had a problem with the sand just have to play around with the direction a little bit but I don't think it's to much I thing it is about perfect my own opinion for what it's worth

Phantom 54,
Any chance I can get a pic of how you have them setup?

I have mine pointed just like Phantom54 does. I have 5 lps and the rest of the tank is sps. I found the mp10's in a petco on clearence and had to have them for the price. I also was thinking about going to mp40's for flow. After adding the mp10's I liked the different flow and kept them on, its alot of flow at the moment as there are a lot of lps that don't do well in the tank. and have lost a few tring to keep them. If you are wanting to have a wavetimer I would stick with the mag series as I have seen alot of people say the 1-4 karalia's don't work on them, I have been running the mag 6's for 2 yrs with only 1 problem and the warrentied it. 2 mag 6's will work very well for a mixed reef, if you want a sps dominated tank you will end up adding something down the line.

Phantom,

Do you have the Magnum 6's on constantly or on a wavemaker alternating? I am looking at getting some Magnums and hooking them up to the smartwave controller to alternate on my 150g, I am just trying to decide which size to go with.
