Is there something I can print out or a site I can direct a doctor to in the event that I am stricken with either zoanthid or palythoa toxin? I'd feel better if I had it printed out and ready to go in the event I am not able to communicate. :)

I've seen a lot of disparate information around in forums, but I figure someone summarized what it is, what the indications are, and how to treat it. I'm looking for a technical document, PDR-like, not banter.

There is a sticky on the zoanthid forum.

Also, the July/Aug issue of CORAL Magazine has a pretty detailed article about the dangers that lurk in our aquariums, which includes palytoxin.

Thank goodness I've never had any experience with the situation but I imagine if you are able to communicate 'palytoxin' to the medical staff then they will be able to pull the needed info from their own resources.

If you want to have something in hand mayby you can find what you're looking for at Poison Control and print a copy of it.

You'd be surprised by what they don't know about in the ER. Being proactive, having some info on hand could save your life.

Actually, I wouldn't really be surprised. It would be impossible for them to know everything about any possible case to come through the door. Shucks, that's why they have a PDR in the first place. By 'their own resources' I meant their own hotline to Poison Control, Center for Disease Control etc.

Ya the reason I want to be proactive is because I've read others stories where they just thought it was the flu and wouldn't treat it.

I'm still looking for a more technical resource. Does one exist online?

good idea on contacting poison control.. Hmm, is that state run!? :)

1) Don't blame ya there.
2) I don't know.
3) It's Federal as far as I know. Good, bad or indifferent it's who the ER docs will contact.:)

If you like scientific/technical articles, there is always pubmed,

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed?term=palytoxin

Or even google has a link for scholarly articles.....most look too technical for me though.

I found an odd kind of a site but it does have symptoms of poisoning and what treatment to use: (the injecting things directly into the heart doesn't sound like a lot of fun!)
